Today I am sharing a recipe for a delicious and super easy BBQ Baked Salmon. I never EVER ate fish by choice before I started moving towards a healthier lifestyle. Well, I should say I never ate fish unless it was heavily breaded and fried and even then it was a stretch for me. Fish sticks were about as far as my experience with fish went. My mom denies this, but I swear when I was a kid she went on an all salmon diet and we ate salmon every night for at least a week. That’s not something you easily forget.
Some of you salmon lovers are thinking “well that doesn’t sound too bad to me”, but my mom used to be afraid of seasoning, thinking it would make the food too spicy. We are talking plain salmon, no seasoning, no sauce, no nothing. Since then my mom has expanded her palette greatly and is no longer afraid of spices. Thank goodness! Love you mom. ☺
Now my husband had a much different experience with fish. He loves it and kept begging me to pick some kind of fish up from the store. Since we were trying to be healthier I decided salmon was the way to go. I had also recently stumbled across a Homemade BBQ Rub that was meant for chicken but I thought BBQ baked salmon sounded like it could be really tasty. Turns out, I was right! The BBQ seasoning tasted delicious on the salmon. I also felt really proud that I went out of my comfort zone and tried it. I’ve learned that I like so many things that I didn’t ever try growing up because I just assumed it would be gross.
Side note: am I the only person super grossed out by the scaly skin side of the salmon? Can you buy salmon that already has the skin removed? If so please let me know! What are some other types of fish that you all like to eat or other ways you like to eat salmon? I’m excited to try even more fish now that I know it can taste this good. BBQ Baked Salmon - Gluten Free & Dairy Free
- 4 salmon fillets
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
- 1/2 tsp chili powder
- 1/2 tsp cumin
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/4 tsp onion powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/8 tsp black pepper
- Preheat oven to 375°F.
- Place salmon, skin side down in a 9 x 13 dish or baking sheet.
- In a small bowl, add all seasoning and stir to combine.
- Drizzle olive oil over each salmon filet evenly.
- Rub a generous amount of seasoning on each fillet.
- Bake for 15-18 minutes depending on filet thickness. Salmon should flake apart and the center should be light pink when fully cooked.
