Hot chocolate is my all time favorite cold weather drink and I’m so excited to share this gluten free, vegan, and refined sugar free version with you today. There is nothing quite like homemade hot chocolate.
This recipe is not only healthier than traditional hot chocolate, but you also get that wonderful decadent and creamy chocolate flavor you’re looking for in a great hot chocolate.
I have so many childhood memories involving this delicious drink. I remember enjoying a cup after coming inside from sledding for hours on a snow day and sipping hot chocolate while watching my brothers football and hockey games.
My all time favorite though, was having a big cup on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day every year. Those were the most special marshmallow filled cups of hot chocolate I would have all year.
I’m so excited to be able to continue those traditions with my kids with this wonderful hot chocolate!
My husband has decided I might have a bit of an addiction. Ever since I had to give up coffee because it gave me headaches, hot chocolate has been my go to soothing beverage.
So it’s definitely a good thing this is a healthier version without all the refined sugar and dairy you get from traditional hot chocolate.
There are so many different topping options too! I love topping mine with “So Delicious Dairy Free CocoWhip”, adding some sprinkles (my daughters favorite), or throwing in some vegan chocolate chips to give it an even richer chocolate flavor.

- 3 cups dairy free milk of choice (I use “So Delicious Unsweetened Coconut Milk”)
- 4 tbsp cocoa powder
- 3 tbsp maple syrup
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp cinnamon
- Combine all ingredients in a medium sized pot.
- Whisk over medium high heat until all ingredients are combined, heated through, and creamy.
- Serve with your favorite hot chocolate toppings.
